At last the time has come…. from this Saturday morning to Monday evening the Blacksmith show committee will be working furiously to get the displays and competition up and underway. The Show opens 8am Sunday 24th August.
This is only the last minute touches, as the committee and in particular Eric Lamprell, have put in a massive amount of work to make the Show the success it always is. Please show your support, because they always say there is no Show without contributors, but likewise there is no Show without those individuals who organise and put masses of their own time in so we can all enjoy ourselves.
The Dorset County Show Blacksmith competitions are held on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September at Cokers Frome showground just north east of Dorchester, Dorset. Just got the final draft for the main Live Competition. Last show of the year and there’s still time to enter so good luck if you fancy having a go.

We wanted to do well at the #IBF team competitions…. But with such stiff competition we were under no illusion that the odds were against us. So it’s difficult to express how good it feels to win; I was a bit stuck for words (unusual for me) when a mic was thrust at me and commanded to say something about Team South East England/Edenbridge Blacksmiths and our win at the Competitions. Thanks to the other 4 members for their trust, forging skill, humour & hard work…. Richard Hillam, Eric Lamprell, Dave (John) Harman, Rhys Harling #teameffort#mates#blacksmith#blacksmithing#eighthoursofforging#infrontofblacksmithcrowd

Blacksmith team ‘South East England’ at the #IBF before and after photos, the theme is ‘Cattle’ (hopefully u can see that?)… 8+ hours of forging, 5 Smiths, 3 Hearths, using only Hammer & Hand. A lot of fire welding and forging. First pic left to right David Harman Rhys Harlin Blacksmith Richard Hillam, Eric Lamprell and Me. Welsh team did brilliantly on Wednesday and the Belgium team (who were up against us yesterday were also fantastic with their secret weapon… forging supremo Terry Clark (unveiled half way through)… who would have thought that Tel was from the land of Victor Horta, mayonnaise on chips and Rene Magritte? But in all seriousness congratulations to everyone so far…. team competitions are not for the faint hearted.
