A bit late this one…. The Royal Welsh Show 20, 21, 23 July 2015 is held at Buith Wells, Wales.

In a nutshell this years competition is this:
CLASS 7 – Any item of ironwork made by traditional methods only.
CLASS 8 – Any item of modern artistic work including figurine.
CLASS 9 – Any finished article of wrought ironwork £100 and over in value.
CLASS 10 – Any finished article of wrought ironwork not exceeding £100 in value.
CLASS 11 – NEW CLASS Jewelry (please see PDF schedule for more detail).
CLASS 12 – for APPRENTICES OR TRAINEES ONLY Any finished article of wrought ironwork. Note: Apprentice or Trainee Competitors are eligible to enter items of work in the Open Classes, if they wish, but those items will not qualify to be judged in Class 11.
CLASS 13 – for WELSH STUDENTS ONLY Competition open to Welsh Students only, though they may be continuing their studies in Technical Institutions outside Wales. An article of ornamental ironwork made during the previous 12 months. Only 2 entries per person.
CLASS 14 LIVE FORGING (to commence at 10.00 am) – STUDENTS OR APPRENTICES To produce a test piece (shephards crook) in 60 minutes. Materials supplied. To a design supplied by Mr Chris Blythman – Herefordshire College of Technology.
CLASS 15 LIVE FORGING – Any article to be made in 90 minutes. Competitors must bring their own materials which must be unworked.
FORGES, ANVILS AND FUEL WILL BE PROVIDED, BUT COMPETITORS MUST BRING ALL OTHER NECESSARY TOOLS.

Beth Shepherd at Royal Bath and West Show last Saturday starting her candle sconce. So good to see the fairer sex forging at the show. Professional Smith Melissa Cole competed in the 90mins Live Forging Competition, making a beautiful Toasting Fork.
Congratulation to the winners, commiserations to the losers… It was an excellent show as usual, thanks from us at E&O to the organizers and host Smiths.
