Richard Jones live Forging at E&O 2016

Very sorry to say that one of our biggest supporters and friend passed away last Thursday evening. Richard was so passionate and involved in Blacksmiths and Forging Competitions, the NBCC blacksmith competition circuit and Worshipful Company of Blacksmith engagements that we will be missed greatly.

This year we’ll have a selection of his last work for sale at Edenbridge and Oxted Blacksmith Competitions, all proceeds will go to his surviving family.

A great man and a great Blacksmith, we’ll miss you Richard! Richards Funeral will be held at 3.15pm on Thursday 22nd June at Haycombe crematorium, 209 Whiteway road, Bath, BA2 2RQ.

Blacksmith Competition dates 2017

Here we are again! Hope you all have had a good rest and ready for some Forging?

As usual I’ll post each Competition’s schedule as I receive it, blag it or beg for it. Some show schedules are pretty much the same every year so you can perhaps prepare a bit in advance; others like Edenbridge and Oxted change every year. The one thing you can be sure of is that a well designed, expertly made and nicely finished piece will always do well.

This year’s Blacksmith Competition dates are as follows:

National Blacksmith Competition dates 2017
The North Somerset Show 1st May (1 day)
The Devon County Show 18th to 20th May (3 days)
The Royal Bath and West Show 31st May to June 3rd (4 days)
The Royal Cornwall Show 8th to 10th June (3 days)
South of England Show 8th to 10th June (3 days)
The Royal Three Counties Show 16th to 18th June (3 days)
The Royal Welsh Show 24th to 27th July (4 days)
The New Forest and Hampshire Show 25th to 27th July (3 days)
The Edenbridge and Oxted Show 27th & 28th August (2 days)
The Dorset County Show 2nd & 3rd September (2 days)

E&O Show 3 1/2 weeks away..

In the interests of getting things going (and nostalgia on my part) here’s a great ‘walk about’ video taken by Remuna Picard of Tiki Forge last year.

There’s still time to enter the Competitions (details at The Competition page) but if that’s not your thing just come along for a chat and to soak up the unique experience of Blacksmith Competitions…. The rest of the Show is quite good too!

Rhys Harlin proprietor of Darenth Valley Forge, Kent with his first place gate at this year’s North Somerset Show 2016

Results from this years first show are in already.

It was a good show with some excellent, quality forgework in the static classes, in particular Rhys Harlin’s gates and Sam Bailey’s Candle stick (seems ridiculous to call it such, as it was much a sculpture as something to give light). Looking forward to the next competition which is Devon County Show in two weeks.
