The Dorset County Show Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd September

 

The Dorset County Show is a two day competition on 2nd & 3rd September and is held at the Cokers Frome Showground just north of Dorchester.

This years schedule is`:

Class 1: An item of Ironwork for indoor use

Class 2: An item of Ironwork for outdoor use

Class 3: An item of Ironwork of a contemporary nature.

Class 4: Live Forging – To make on the Showground in 30 minutes a saleable item competitors to supply their own material.

Class 5: Live Forging – To make on the showground in 60 minutes “an item of door furniture” competitors to supply their own material.

Dorset County Show 3rd and 4th September 2016

On Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th September is the last round of the NBCC Blacksmith Competitions show of the circuit and is held at the Cokers Frome showground approximately 1/2mile from Dorchester town centre.

This years schedule is:

Static competitions

Class 1: Any item produced using mainly traditional methods for indoor use
Class 2: Any item produced using mainly traditional methods for outdoor use
Class 3: Any Item of an artistic nature using any method of construction, with no limit on selling price

Live competitions

Class 4: Any saleable item produced on the showground in 30 minutes
Class 5: In 60 minutes Competitors are required to make, on the showground an item on the theme of “by hook or by crook” any size any design competitor to supply material. Points given for inventiveness and function.

Special prizes will be awarded for student entries at the judges discretion.

Competitors to supply their own material and tools. Forge anvil coal and vice will be provided. No striker or extra clean up time allowed.

Here is Dorset Show schedule for 2015, the show is held at Cokers Frome showground just north of Dorchester on 5th & 6th September.

“A Candle Snuffer” any size any design competitor to supply material. Points given for inventiveness and function.

Special prizes will be awarded for student entries at the judges discretion.

Competitors to supply their own material and tools. Forge anvil coal and vice will be provided.
No striker allowed.

2015 NBCC Competition dates

I hope you are getting ready for a busy new season of Blacksmith Competitions.

I’m writing mid January 2015 so there’s still plenty of time for you to make something for the static competitions. Each Competition Round has classes peculiar to the individual show, but if you base your efforts on 1. Static Traditional design and make class, 2. Static Contemporary design and make class, 3. Live forging.

As the Shows submit their schedules I will post them for you, I’ll also offer some hints to successful competition submissions in a later posts.

The Devon County Show – 21, 22, 23 May (3 days)
The Royal Bath and West Show – 27, 28, 29, 30 May (4 days)

The Dorset County Show Blacksmith competitions are held on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September at Cokers Frome showground just north east of Dorchester, Dorset. Just got the final draft for the main Live Competition. Last show of the year and there’s still time to enter so good luck if you fancy having a go.

Schedule for 2014

Static competitions

Class 1: Any item produced using mainly traditional methods for indoor use – Prize money 1st £30, 2nd £20, 3rd £10
Class 2: Any item produced using mainly traditional methods for outdoor use – Prize money 1st £30, 2nd £20, 3rd £10
Class 3: Any Item of an artistic nature using any method of construction, with no limit on selling price – Prize money 1st £30, 2nd £20, 3rd £10


Live competitions

Class 4: Any saleable item produced on the showground in 30 minutes no striker allowed – Prize money 1st £25, 2nd £15, 3rd £10
Class 5: Competitors are required to make ‘a left handed corkscrew’ any design, any size, on the showground in 60 minutes competitor to supply material. Points given for inventiveness and function – Prize money 1st £40, 2nd £20, 3rd £10

Competitors to supply their own material and tools. Forge anvil coal and vice will be provided.
No striker allowed.
